Co-founders Joe and Tom met at the University of Adelaide where Joe commenced his PhD in soil ecology and Tom was part of his supervisory team. Over several years, they worked closely together delivering field trials, building both a strong research partnership and a shared understanding of the challenges facing agricultural innovation ultimately leading to the formation of Soil Analytics Pty Ltd.
Through their experience, a clear problem emerged: despite significant investment (over $3billiion annually) in agricultural R&D across Australia, much of this work remains inaccessible to the people it is designed to support, confined to static reports and disconnected repositories, limiting real-world impact.
AgMap was developed to address this gap by connecting research directly to place, making it visible, searchable and relevant while capturing engagement data, to show what producers, levy payers, and decision makers are actively seeking and using.
AgMap leverages an advanced AI-driven extraction pipeline to process agricultural research, automatically identifying trial locations, crop types and key findings, then geocoding and mapping this data into a searchable spatial database.
A key differentiator is its climate similarity matching capability, which surfaces relevant trials based on comparable growing conditions, enabling farmers to access insights from regions hundreds of kilometres away with similar environments.
AgMap also incorporates engagement tracking capturing who is engaging research, where and when, providing funders and organisations, with clear evidence of research adoption and real-world impact.
AgMap’s primary market is Australia’s researchers and extension professionals. With universities, grower groups and extension organisations, the domestic opportunity is $$6-10M ARR conservatively. Near-term international markets represent $$30-50M across New Zealand, Canada, the UK and the US. The core technology is sector-agnostic - any domain where place-specific research needs to reach practitioners, from forestry to fisheries.
AgMap are pursuing partnerships across multiple layers of the ag R&D ecosystem - universities, national research funding bodies, landscape boards, drought resilience hubs and regional grower groups. They are looking for partners who generate, fund or distribute agricultural research and want to understand whether it reaches the people it was designed for, and organisations that bridge the gap between research and on-farm practice.
